Why "business days" needs a precise definition
The phrase "5 business days" sounds simple, but it hides real ambiguity: does it mean 5 weekdays regardless of holidays, or 5 actual working days after removing both weekends and public holidays? Contracts, shipping estimates, and legal notice periods aren't always consistent about which definition they use. This calculator handles the unambiguous part — excluding Saturdays and Sundays — and leaves holiday exclusion to you, since holiday calendars vary enormously: a delivery estimate from a US company won't account for a UK bank holiday, and vice versa.

Does this account for public holidays?

Is "5 business days" always exactly one calendar week?
Not necessarily. If the count includes a weekend in the middle, 5 business days can span 7 calendar days rather than 5. This calculator handles that automatically by skipping weekend days as it counts.
What counts as a business day here
The default model skips Saturday and Sunday. It does not automatically load every public holiday for every country. A US federal holiday calendar and a UK bank-holiday calendar are not interchangeable. If your deadline is defined by a specific exchange or court, use that institution’s published calendar after you get a weekend-adjusted draft from this page.
Example: a parcel promised “three business days” from Friday usually starts Monday, not Saturday. Starting Friday afternoon versus Monday morning is a policy choice, not a math choice.
