How long until it happens?
Name the moment and the date — a wedding, a trip, a due date, a deadline — and watch the countdown, live.
How this works
Enter any future date and a short label. We'll show you exactly how many days remain, updated live. Share the link and anyone who opens it sees the same live countdown — no account needed on either end.
Create a countdown to any date
Enter a future date and give the event a name. The calculator shows how many days remain and keeps the countdown easy to share for birthdays, weddings, trips, launches, exams, deadlines, and other milestones.
If you need the exact distance between two arbitrary dates rather than a countdown from today, use the Days Between Dates calculator.
Why counting down matters more than it seems
A specific number — "62 days" — carries more weight in planning than a vague sense of "a couple of months away." Research on goal-setting has consistently found that concrete, countable deadlines tend to produce more consistent progress than open-ended timeframes, partly because a shrinking number creates a visible sense of urgency that a calendar date alone doesn't. This is the same psychological principle behind countdown clocks used for product launches, exam prep schedules, and wedding planning timelines — the number itself becomes a small, repeated nudge to actually do something about the time remaining.
Choosing what to count down to
Some of the most common uses for a countdown are milestone birthdays, wedding and anniversary planning, trip departures, application or exam deadlines, product launches and events, and due dates of all kinds. If your event repeats — like an anniversary that happens every year — our dedicated Anniversary Calculator is built specifically for tracking recurring milestones rather than a single one-time countdown.
Frequently asked questions
Does the countdown update automatically?
Yes — every time the page is opened, it recalculates the days remaining from today's date.
Can I share my countdown with someone else?
Yes. Tap "Share countdown" and send the link — it opens with your event name and date already filled in.
What if the date has already passed?
We'll show you how many days have passed since the date instead of days remaining.
How is the day count calculated?
We take the difference between today's date and your target date in whole calendar days, so the count is exact regardless of which months or how many days each month contains along the way.
Reading a countdown without fooling yourself
A countdown to a date usually ends at the beginning of that local date (midnight) unless the page lets you set a time. “10 days left” on Monday morning for an event next Thursday depends on whether Thursday 00:00 or Thursday 18:00 is the target.
Refresh the page if you leave it open across midnight. The remaining whole days drop when the local date changes, not when an arbitrary 24-hour timer finishes.
